Routine - Ranting

Live. Die. Repeat.

For any film fanatics, this phrase might be common, as the new Edge of Tomorrow film premiering soon. But, it brings up another point for me, one of routine.

Many people have a routine, me especially got used to my morning routine before school. (Ugh School -_- ) After all the school day is set and it is easy to set a routine. As someone who is use to this, I can tell you, despite my reluctance for school, I like the routine, and I bet many of you will say the same.

I know you don't want to admit, but school is routine it creates security, because you know what you're doing at what needs to be completed. Stress arises in situations you're not comfortable with, while you are most content with comfort, after all that's logical. So why wouldn't it be logical to love schools routine. While it can be argued children are more creative and looking for adventure, as we get older we get more self conscious of the world, while we didn't have a routine, what we did have as a kid was security, knowledge our lives were being catered for.

As we get older we look to settle down, get a family and conform to society, while this may seem odd and irrational, surely its not. We have always had and continue to want, security. Hence why many want a safe family, as they want to feel like their in a place where they belong. So maybe having dreams of a stable secure and repetitive job is not the fault of the patriarchy, but the result of basic human nature.

 - Are you really making an argument for dead end jobs?
 - I suppose
 - People are gonna hate you
 - Well don't they all?
 - Actually, that's right nobody likes you!

Well that's just rude. But there you go. It is my belief that it is logical for us to want a dead end job. But we must also question other decisions. If, as humans, we want security, why would we risk much at all, why would we risk anything. Maybe that's something for another time.

But back to the idea of Routine. I mentioned how we secretly love the school / work routine. If we do love the routine then it might explain why we are so lazy during weekends or holidays. We don't want to risk anything, so it better to stay where it is safe, home. This could easily explain why school students feel lazy at weekends, not because we are inherently lazy or that we hate school, but because it was never part of the routine. We can link these to other Asian cultures where they do hours of homework everyday. This is not weird for them because they are use to it. It is their routine.

After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So what is weird to one, is normal for another. So there you go, a rant on routine. Make of it what you will.

Each day is Unique, you just need to look for the patterns.
